Summer Is Here

Summer has arrived, although on a different day for each of us.  Rachel's last day of school was Wednesday, not that she really understood that.  Katherine became a 2nd grader at 1:00 on Thursday.  I finished work yesterday morning.  Steve has one more day to go.  So, it's been a slow transition to summer!

Katherine has always had summer goals (her ideas, not mine!) and one of the goals this year was to learn to sew.  So, yesterday while at Granny's she convinced Granny to start sewing lessons.  Granny described the experience as "She was like a duck taking to water - a natural!"  By the time I picked her up in the afternoon, Katherine had sewn, stuffed, and stitched a pillow.  She can't wait for the next project.

Steve and Poppy rode their bikes in the Defeat Diabetes Ride today.  Granny and the girls and I celebrated the first Saturday of summer by taking a picnic to a park in a nearby town.  The girls love this "train park" and had a grand time climbing all over the old steam engine.
Katherine begged to clean out her room during Rachel's nap.  (Yes, she actually LIKES it when we clean out her room!)  Two and a half hours, two bags of trash, and a giant garage sale box full later, the room is spotless.

And so summer begins...
