Gruyère Gougères -- French Fridays with Dorie

I am so excited to be posting these delicious Gougères for the very first French Fridays with Dorie! I have wanted to make Gougères for years, but have never gotten to it until today for FFWD. Dorie is an amazing teacher through her writing, and gives very clear directions and tips to make sure your kitchen creations turn out, as I have learned participating in Tuesdays with Dorie. These Gougères were a perfect intro to her new book, Around My French Table, and tasted absolutely delicious.

Dorie gives a few cheese suggestions and I went with Gruyère since that is a favorite cheese of mine and I'm always happy to have an excuse to buy a block. This is my usual Gryuère, it's imported from Switzerland and available at Sam's Club, I love the flavor it adds.

I baked up a half recipe, which was perfect for our little family. I ended up with 16 puffs. Next time I think I will go ahead with a full batch, especially if we have company.

My kiddos really liked these, and picky husband said they were "definitely different, but pretty good" which was not quite as high of praise as I was expecting, sigh. I thought they were fantastic, the Gruyère really stood out, light and airy, yet not too delicate to enjoy. My kids loved how crispy they were on the outside and softer in the middle.

This was such a fun baking project, and the end results were amazing. Thank you so much to Laurie for starting this group and keeping us together for another amazing cook through of Dorie's amazing recipes :)
