First Program

Rachel had her first school music program this evening.  She was all excited about wearing her school shirt and kept saying, "MY program!"  She was happy to sit in the gym with her classmates.  She waved enthusiastically when she spotted us in the bleachers.
And then it was time to sing.  Rae stood up with all the other kids in a line that stretched from one end of the gym to the other.  The music started and the kids started singing and doing actions.  But not Rachel.  She stood silently, looking around and putting her hands in her pockets.  Her teacher had warned me that Rae never sings during music time in class (but sings the songs later during play time) so I really wasn't too surprised.

See all the other kids singing If You're Happy and You Know It?  Rachel is just hanging out. She never sang a word, never did a single action, and never cracked a smile.  It was really pretty funny!  After all, this is Rachel the ultimate Social Butterfly!  When we picked her up afterward, she was still excited.  "MY program!"  It's fun to be in the spotlight, even if you don't do a thing.

(Seeing Rachel standing with her peers, I was reminded of how short she is.  I don't ever think about how little she really is.  She's grown a lot since she's been home and seems about average to us, but I guess she's not!)
