Winner of the 'Lints Award'
We were delighted to see an article about our Kindergarten published in last Tuesdays Northern Advocate (29th May 2012).
The article concentrates on us winning the 'Lints Award' - a new award that Kindergartens within the Northland Kindergarten Association are eligible for.
This is a scanned copy from the newspaper, hence not too easy to read. For those that missed the paper, here is the transcript:
The staff at Mairtown Kindergarten would like to share their recent success. Last term the Kindergarten won The LInts Award. This is a new award donated by Effie Lints (who has a very long background in education) and made for her by her brother Murray.
Mairtown is the first Kindergarten to have won this award. The award booklet states: "The Lints award is to be presented to the Kindergarten staff whose practice throughout the year nurtures lifelong learning for children and their whanau using creative, innovative and resourceful strategies".
Mairtown Kindergarten runs a nature programme, taking the oldest 10 children each Friday into the bush at Mair Park for nature education and just to enjoy unhurried nature time. This is for the whole Kindergarten session, and is one of the main reasons Mairtown was the first award recipient.
As a team we are very honoured to win this award and it now has pride of place on the wall at Kindergarten - come and have a look - made from recycled kauri it is really very beautiful. Also, a big thank you to Mike for taking this fantastic photo!
