Palm Sunday

It was Katherine's favorite Sunday of the year - Palm Sunday.  She has always loved parading around the sanctuary waving palm branches.
Then the children sang a song.  Rachel even sang along!
This afternoon we made some new friends.  I heard through the teacher grapevine that a newly arrived Chinese girl has moved to town.  I managed to contact the family and we went to visit.  MeiYin is 8 and just came to America with her dad on Thursday.  Her mom has been here, going to graduate school.  MeiYin is in the midst of jetlag, does not speak English, and is scared of all the changes in her life.  I sat with her parents and chatted over tiny cups of tea.  The girls went off to play with MeiYin, since play doesn't require a shared language.  The 8 year olds had a grand time making origami, following picture directions in a book.  Then we went off to explore the park.
MeiYin brought bread for the ducks and geese and talked to them affectionately in Mandarin.  Then the girls ran around the playground for a while.  It was nice to make a new friend and I think everyone went home happier.
